Information you provide
We do not currently offer user accounts, checkout, or a form for reader submissions. Please do not send personal or sensitive information to a guessed contact address. This site is intended for adults managing household water, not for children to submit personal information.
Optional analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 only after you select Accept Cookies. Until then, we do not load the Google tag, send analytics requests, or set analytics cookies. Rejecting analytics does not limit access to any page.
After acceptance, Google receives page-view information for our published page addresses, a cookie-based browser identifier, and technical information such as browser and device characteristics and request timing. Google also receives your IP address as part of the network connection. We use analytics to understand which pages are read, not to assess anyone's water quality or health.
Our implementation sends only approved page addresses without query strings or fragments, omits the page title, and omits the referring page. The Google tag runs on the page only after you accept optional analytics cookies. We do not send form content, lab or water test results, email addresses, names, user IDs, or custom sensitive labels. We do not track outbound clicks, searches, downloads, or interactions with the article. Google may generate ordinary session and engagement metadata.
Google Analytics cookies named _ga and _ga_DHMHB1XXZG distinguish browsers and sessions. We configure an expiry of 90 days without extending it on each visit; browser settings may shorten cookie lifetimes. Your accepted or rejected choice is stored in this browser's local storage until you change it or clear site data. If storage is blocked, a choice may apply only to the current page.
Choose Cookie settings in any page's footer to change your decision. Selecting Reject Cookies withdraws consent, removes this site's analytics cookies, and reloads the page to stop further analytics requests. Withdrawal cannot undo information already sent to Google. A Global Privacy Control signal keeps analytics off even if you previously accepted. Choices are specific to a browser and device.
Advertising storage, advertising user data, and advertising personalization consent remain denied. Google signals and advertising personalization are disabled in our tag configuration. We do not use this implementation for advertising or remarketing.
Google processes analytics information under its own terms and policies and may process it outside your country. See Google's Privacy & Cookie Policy and how Google uses information from partner sites. Cookie expiry on your device is separate from retention of information already processed by Google.
Hosting records
Our hosting provider may process ordinary security and operations logs such as IP address, requested page, user agent, and time to deliver and protect the website. Hosting and analytics providers may process information outside your country. Cookie expiry is not a promise that server-side records are deleted at the same time; retention depends on the purpose, provider settings, security needs, and applicable requirements. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Future changes
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights relating to access, correction, deletion, or restriction of personal information. These rights are subject to applicable conditions and exceptions. You can control optional analytics immediately through Cookie settings, browser settings, or Global Privacy Control. You may also have the right to complain to the relevant privacy regulator. We update this policy when our data practices change. External websites have their own privacy policies; review those before sharing information.
